About Us

Visual Learner’s Alphabet (VLA) was created by a school based Occupational Therapist who noticed a significant amount of children who struggled with consistent letter and number formations affecting their quality and speed of written work. She believes that the simplest method is often the best when it comes to children’s learning. In response, she created a new system of learning consistent letter formation which was clear and simple. VLA provides visual cues on what to do motorically. The system works by using a color coded pattern that we are familiar with from a very young age. Green, Yellow, and Red. All letters are broken up into simple strokes. Green identifies the first stroke, Yellow identifies the second stroke, and Red identifies the final stroke. Some letters have less than three strokes. In these cases, only the applicable colors are used. Since children are such visual learners, and visual aides enhance learning, children have keenly received this straight forward system. VLA eliminates the extraneous details and instructions which often accompany learning how to write. The colors "say" what may be hard for the child to comprehend auditorily. Children introduced to this system seem to embrace the challenge of writing letters they never knew how to, because the mystery of how to write the letter has become clear.
